PLAYER’S PERSPECTIVE
As proud G&L dealers, we’re stoked to present you this awesome ASAT Classic from their Fullerton factory in a tasteful Whiskey finish with a custom-ordered Swamp Ash body! The ASAT is G&L’s evolved take on the original T-style guitar designed by Leo Fender himself, and this is definitely a piece that carries on the legacy of the instrument.
Here at the shop, we love guitars that are modern and practical with “quality of life” improvements that cater to the player, but retain the vintage tone we all love. This model features a custom-ordered “Classic Plus” neck profile, which, while meatier than G&L’s usual Modern profile, feels equally as fast-playing while harkening back to the thicker necks of vintage instruments. Next is the bridge – it combines the modern six-saddle design with improved intonation with the brass construction of the vintage-style T bridge for a true marriage of the best of both worlds. This guitar also feels way more comfortable to play than an average T with the pronounced belly cut for improved ergonomics, especially when you’re sitting down.
G&L really killed it with these pickups. You can tell at first glance that the MFD single-coils are no ordinary T-style pickups – these bite just a little harder to handle more modern styles nicely while still retaining the vintage twang this type of guitar is known for. With the tone rolled back, they can also get very warm and creamy whilst retaining awesome clarity.
If you want to try a great T-style guitar alternative that has the pickup configuration and playing comfort worthy of a true workhorse, take this USA-made ASAT Classic out for a spin.
